Why can't America perforate anything any more?

I know this is some crotchety old man get off my lawn stuff, but why can't America perforate anything any more? Regardless of brand or market position, none of the toilet paper, shop towels, or paper towels will separate cleanly on the perforation line. Also, now I come to think of it, we don't seem to be able to crease anything any more, either, but maybe that's a separate rant.</rant>
