What hyperlogos.org is all about

hyperlogos.org animated moon logo

Hyperlogos - hyper, from greek Huper, "over, beyond", and Logos, "the active, material, rational principle of the cosmos" (among other things.) Thus, the principle over all. The word Logos was utilized in the book Snow Crash as the word which expresses a thought; basically, the concept in sumerian mythology is that the word and the reality go hand in hand, and are basically inseperable from one another. You can see this concept at work as well in Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea series.

SSL enabled

Today I enabled SSL on this host, using a self-signed cert. It's some $45/year to get a properly signed one, and I'm not sure it's really worth it, so I went ahead and self-signed. If I ever start taking credit card payments, and not just using paypal (once I even get ecommerce module working properly) then I'll probably change my mind.

drupal upgrades, and more

Drupal Logo

Today I upgraded Drupal from 4.6.x to 4.7.x. This came with some special problems, but none of them were in drupal itself, but in modules. To wit, the ecommerce module summoned satan all over itself; it is using the new method in drupal where modules can create their own database tables, and it's not creating them all. I went so far as to disable all the modules, manually remove the tables, and then put the modules back in - which changed nothing. I wasn't actually selling anything anyway, so I went ahead and kept the upgrade.

More website updates, more to come

I've been fighting for some time to come up with a layout that really genuinely works. I want to use CSS and end up doing strict XHTML, so I'm working towards that end mostly by trying to eliminate all tables.

Theming in Progress

I am currently in the process of working on developing a theme for this site. This will tell me what I need to know to theme other drupal sites. Consequently, the site looks a little whacked out right now. Some things may be a little hard to read; if you have problems, send me mail.

Valid XHTML 1.0/Transitional

The front page currently validates as XHTML 1.0/Transitional. In particular I had to muck around with the gmap module and turn off the recent comments block. The former specifies a script tag with language but no type, and the latter has a <ul></ul> pair in it with no <li> tags in between, which is also not allowed.

CSV-filter

I have installed CSV-filter, which allows you to post lists without doing tables manually. (However, it does require table tags to be enabled in the HTML filter, so it will not be made available to all users.)

Interwiki

I have added the Interwiki module, which allows quick links to external content, searches, et cetera. There is a list of prefixes at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Interwiki_map.
