Racing seats like this one are lighter, stronger, and safer than factory seats. A racing seat belt or harness like the one shown above (which today is often sold with a seat) protects the driver far more than the typical type used in production vehicles, and must be occasionally replaced to meet racing regulations.

A simple, inexpensive "harness" type seat belt for auto racing or for use in a vehicle which is "expected" to be turned upside down, such as a dune buggy. This type of harness has been in use for many years.
